I do reds all the time too, they used to hold and now even permanant colours don't hold for long at all. My latest hair dying venture lasted all of about 10 days and that was a reddy-black!

Every time I was my hair, it just gets even more pink and will be completely gone soon enough. What color will actually hold? Please don't tell me something as horrible as my natural 'mousy brown'!

What's the deal with red? Anyone know of a home job to fix it?

i wouldnt use any store bought my mom is a licenced cosmotologist, and the stuff you get at a grocery store is no good at all. it will make your hair worse. blonde, browns and black, are all hearty colors, and you can get some nice colors it just depends on your taste.

I sometimes go for a really rich brown. I'm naturally mousey too but a lovely dark chesnut or coffee-like colour can do wonders.

You would think that dark brown with a hint of red would hold as well. The girl did really screw up my hair! I have done rich brown also. It washed out too. Maybe not a quickly.

This is what the instructon explained to me. She said that box colors from the store bleach your hair, then add color for all with differing hair colors to get the same result as what is on the box. She said that there really is no such thing as a permanent dark color from a salon, but it will never destroy your hair.

Every salon will go into heart failure when you tell them 'color from a box'. I used to do my own blonde highlights. When it got too blonde, I would use box dark brown and highlight again. The brown held! I did this for quite a few years until my hair started snapping off into layers and I couldn't get any length.

Why do salons almost have a heart attack when they have to deal with a box color? My daughter was into this Goth style with dyed black hair. With the problems I have had with salon dark colors, what's the big deal getting the black out of her hair?

It was a big deal! They stripped her hair and couldn't promise what color they realistically could work with. They got the black out, leaving her hair with blonde to orange, so opted for red with strands of unnatural color to make it interesting. That red was washing out of her hair quickly also.

Has anyone noticed the color hold problem with salon darks while the dreaded box colors actually hold a lot better?

Slaons probably don't like to to use permenant hair colour, whereas the boxed ones I get are mixed with hydrogen peroxide, probably to lighten the hair before the colour takes.

a bad hair day makes me a mess so I usually tie my hair up. But when I still dont feel fine about it, the next day I'll go to a salon for a treatment.

To start, I wasn't born with naturally beautiful black hair. so I have done several treatments, hair relax, hotoil, hair color. The problem is the effect do not last for a long time. It comes back to being dry and all.

Then I decided to spend a lot for a fine hair rebond, I even searched on forum for recommendations. Too bad I still need 4 months so that my hair color will wear off before I can have a hair rebond.

Sometimes I just want to wear a wig to have a manageable hair.

Am I making sense? Those were just my rants about my hair and salon services that do not last

Mastermemei, you make perfect sense to me!

I think a lot of us go for blonde highlights. It's not like anyone can foil your hair with the exact same strands of blonde. This problem is covered with a darker, more natural color. No matter what dark, it doesn't hold after multiple bleach of highlights. How old is six inches of hair? Pretty old!

If I scrubbed my hair to death, all dark would come out. The result would be more horrifying that my hair getting to be a bit lighter shade of pink after this screw up.

I was hoping for a better idea than having my hair done more frequently. I hate having my hair done! I don't like the dentist much either and take Xanax and close my eyes till it's over to get though that ordeal. If someone gave me a gift for a free day at the spa, with massage, I would pay someone to go for me. I don't like people touching on me! I already know, neurotic!

Given that disclosure, I often do wait until I look like a contestant for the Miss White Trash pageant winner before having my hair done. Come to think of it, I do remember being told my hair could be touched up with far less time and cost, but I never do that.

Is that the mistake I made? I have my hair repetitively highlighted and over time it's just bleached out to the point it will not hold dark color? No matter how horrified salons are about box hair color, it really does hold dark a lot better!
