Ok...I am totally scared to dance in front of people. I wish someone would teach me cause I go to parties sometimes and feel bad just sitting while everyone else dances but I feel like a dork dancing.

The best place to learn is a place you are safe. Does your hubby like to dance?
What kind would you like to learn?

Gabby, my hubby is not a dancer either and I don't think he cares. I don't know what kind I want to learn, I just want to be able to get up to any music and have some kind of rythem(sp?) or move that looks decent. When I go to weddings they always do those dances like the macarena and electric slide which I don't know but it seems like everyone else does. I didn't learn to dance in school. I tried to join the dance team in high school but my dad wouldn't let me cause he didn't want to pay all the money for the uniforms and shoes, etc... I did ask a friend of mine if she would teach me something so maybe she will although I don't think she is the best dancer either. This thread has inspired me more to learn and maybe I could find a place that teaches it for adults. They have all kinds of stuff for children but not for adults. I think I don't have a lot of self confidence in front of people and you probably need that to feel comfortable about dancing.

Suzy,
I always liked to dance but my ex didn't and we always seemed to sit at weddings etc. I really never had any training at all. As our marrage began to end I found a great group of gals who mostly NIA dance that is really a workout type of dance. Look it up in your area it is what aerobics was back in the 80's. I've always been very active. The studio also has classes in Bellydance and African. I've taken all therr. Thy also have yoga. The instructor said I was the most improved NIA dancer. Two other ladies and me are considering getting trained to be instructors. This is from someone in her 50's. You are soooo very right all the classses are generally for little girls. Good luck. Just google NIA and see what I'm so excited about. It has helped me lose 35 lbs and more importantly it has been good for my mental health not only the exercise benn the frendships. Last Friday on my b day they all took me out. Such a great girls night out.

Love

instructor? wow, then you're realy good. It's something great. You'll be able to teach others and also share your love for the art. Nice indeed. I agree that such an activity is a great thing to do. I didn't do any dance since I'm too stiff and un-coordinated, but I did take martial arts and I can totally relate to what you describe; you work out, lose eight, tone the body and also have a great time with like minded people. Great for the body and for the spirit Wink

The cost of the training is high and I'm not totally sure I am up to it. The NIA dance has many moves from martial arts it is about 1/3 of the dance.

Thanks for the support Ramona.

Suzy I can't wait to find out what you learn. I also understand it is becoming popular in other places in the world. I really don't know where.
