Help-Thyroid problem

My mother used to suffer from different kinds of health problems. Last month when she has gone to her GP for a blood test, it was diagnosed that she has thyroid problems and that her thyroid is not working well. A week ago, she has seen that a goiter gland has formed on her neck and it was noticeable. She started to have breathing problem; her GP has told her that she had to do a surgery to remove that goiter. View that she has other health problems; she will be at risk when doing that surgery. I don’t want to lose my mum. Any suggestions from you friends??
I’ve learn about a medicine called cytomel t4 used to treat thyroid problems.

Quote:
Levothyroxine is a naturally occurring hormone produced by the thyroid glands. Unfortunately in some cases the thyroid glands cannot produce enough Levothyroxine needed by the body. That is when use of the Levothyroxine drug is prescribed. The Levothyroxine drug is commonly called Synthroid. Aside from the treatment of hormone deficiency, Synthroid can also be used to treat the enlargement of the thyroid glands also known as goiter. Synthroid has also been used to treat thyroid cancer.

Do you think it is advisable for her to her the medication?? Does she need to have a prescription first??

Sorry to hear that your Mum is having problems hon. I hope that everything goes well for her especially the surgery for the goiter.

Thyroid conditions are very treatable. Sometimes a person will need to take medications for the rest of their life and other times there is a form of radiation, a one off dose I think, that will help. Of course it also depends on whether it is an over-active thyroid or an under active one.

I too have abnormal levels with my T4 or T3 hormones, I can't remember which one exactly, just that it is the one that tells the thyroid to switch off. Thankfully I don't need medication at the moment but the dr will be keeping an eye on me. I did a fair bit of research to check things out just to be prepared.

Would your Mum's doctor be willing to have a chat with you to explain what treatments she might need? I know it would help set your mind at rest if you asked and they could help.

Good Luck for both you and your Mum. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you both.

I havent lost my mind ... its backed up on disc .. somewhere
