Who are your favorite authors?

I'm always looking for new authors to read. I like to wander around the library and bookstores but my favorite way to find new books to read is getting recommendations from other people. It doesn't have to be an extensive list. For me, it would take much time and thought to list them all.

Here are a few:

Jonathan Carroll
Neil Gaiman
Simone de Beauvoir
Emma Goldman
Kathy Acker
Richard Brautigan
Anne Sexton
Sylvia Plath
Pablo Neruda
Howard Zinn

I mostly like fantasy books but if I had to choose any authors it would be Kate Forsyth and Traci Harding. Both are Australian authors and have written some great books.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will check them out. At this point my favorite fantasy authors would be Roger Zelazny and Terry Pratchett. I haven't read much fantasy but it is one genre I wouldn't mind checking out more of.
